Your Questions About Publishing Software

Thomas asks…
How do i copy and paste into a microsft or any other publishing software?
I intend to do self publishing of an in-house magazine. What program can I use?

admin answers:
It seems like two questions:
1) Copy and paste: like any software, should be available through the Edit menu (Edit->Copy and Edit->Paste). On MS Windows, keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. On Mac OS, keyboard shortcuts are Cmd+C and Cmd+V
2) Publishing software: you have Microsoft Publisher, but also OpenOffice Draw, and Scribus.

Donna asks…
What’s the most user friendly desktop publishing software out there?
I’m publishing a very small national newspaper but I’m new to desktop publishing. Any thoughts?

admin answers:
There is not much choice actually. The two professional programs are Adobe InDesign and QuarkXpress. If you are on a tight budget there is also Scribus which is free. It is not that good but it does the job. Everything else will probably be too amateur to run a newspaper.
Personaly I prefer InDesign.

Mark asks…
What are the best professional desktop publishing software’s?
Preferably something that’s good for making wedding announcements and marketing campaigns.
Also what’s the best professional image editing software‘s? I think photoshop is one, but what kind?

admin answers:
For this sort of thing, Adobe is usually held as the gold standard. InDesign for desktop publishing and Photoshop for image editing.
If you don’t want to spend that much money on an image editor, the open source GIMP is pretty close to Photoshop in terms of functionality and it’s free.
