Microsoft office has tutorials on their website that you may be able to access. I used them before, they were decent tutorials considering I already knew the software but the training was required.

Publisher will work. Another option would be Scribus:

Quite powerful, easy to use and free to download. I prefer this over Publisher for things like newsletters.
If you need more professional DTP layout options, Adobe InDesign is the way forward. Much more expensive, though. But arguably the best DTP application at the moment.
