Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are the industry standard for graphics, although pricey, they do have a 30 day free trial and there are tons of tutorials on just about anything you would want to accomplish with them (photoshop is raster based–produces images based on pixel descriptions which when scaled up lose resolution, Illustrator is vector based which means shapes and fonts are described in arcs and lines and can be scaled up without loss of resolution).
A free raster-based application is called Gimp and many tutorials are availabe for it, a free vecotr-based app is Inkscape.
Using either vector or raster-based applications depends on the project, usually photos (which are based on the number of pixels within them–like a 6 megapixel camera describes the number of pixels used to represent the photo) are modified in raster-based applications. While most raster-based applications can also do fonts and text, the best results are from adjusting photos/images in a raster-based app then importing (“placing” as Illustrator describes it) them into a vector-based application where you would then add the text. This ensures the font edges are crisp and clean and never fuzzy. Then you can save as (or export) a pdf, or eps file which the printer will be able to work with.

Donald asks…
Does anybody know of a DVD PUBLISHING software in which you can also make Special Features in it?
I need a fancy dvd maker so i can publish this video i made along with special features and a way to add subtitles.

admin answers:
The software you are looking for is Dvd authoring.
The best free one is DVDstyler: http://www.dvdstyler.org/en/
It is quite complex in what it can do, you can add multi language tracks, subtitles, completely customize the menu. But it is a little bit harder to use, you may want to watch some tutorials on youtube or something.
If you are looking for one that costs money, Adobe Encore is purely amazing. Its very intuitive, and what you can do with it is astounding.
EDIT: at guy above
yet another reason why mac users are ignorant….
IDVD is really nothing better then the windows dvd maker programs that comes built in with windows vista or 7 other then the fact it comes with more prebuilt themes.
DVDstyler, tho harder to use, runs circles around idvd…
Why do mac users always brag about the shit software that comes free with macs? ALL of it blows hardcore….
