Read below, remove all that you wish from the startup list, and post back if your computer is moving faster or the same slow speed.
===============================
Here are all the definitions of the startup processes that you have going on your machine at the moment. You can read through this list and determine which are necessary, and which are not. Keep in mind, if a program needs to be run at regular intervals (like a spy sweeper or such), you’ll want to keep those on the startup list. If something needs to be running to update itself, it’ll also update itself when you manually start the program, so doesn’t need to be in the startup list (such as jusched, which says startup is recommended. Trust me though, 15 years on computers and I’ve never needed it in startup since it’s been a part of most systems.).
Ehtray – ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar process for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
Rundll32 – doesn’t need to be autostartup
hkcmd”hkcmd.exe” is Intel’s “extreme” grahics hot key interceptor. If you never use the Intel hotkeys, you can go to Control Panel > Intel Extreme Graphics > Hot Keys and turn them off.
Igfxpers – igfxpers.exe is a process installed alongside NVidia graphics cards and provides additional configuration options for these devices. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
Iaanotif – is a process belonging to the Application Accelerator from Intel. It changes the Windows ATA drivers for maximum performance. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
DMAScheduler – is a process which belongs to the DigitalMedia Plus Archiver. This program is non-essential process to the running of the program, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
RECGUARD – is a process from HP that prevents a user from deleting or corrupting the WinXP Recovery Partition on Hewlett Packard computers.
HPBootOP – is a process belonging to HP Boot Optimizer. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
Remind_XP – is a process belonging to the SoftThinks CD Creator CD/DVD Writer and serves as a reminder to register for full product support. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
HPWuSchd2 – is a process belonging to the Hewlett Packard Software Update Scheduler which displays update information regarding HP’s range of products. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
Spybot SD (Which I deleted)
AAW Tray – is a AAWTray Application belonging to AAWTray Application (wht_knght says this is for AdAware. Keeping it running in startup is personal preference.)
RTHDCPL – is a process belonging to the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel and is bundled alongside Realtek sound cards and audio hardware. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
ALCMTR – is a process installed alongside Realtek AC97 audio hardware and provides a monitoring service. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
jusched – is a process installed alongside Sun Microsystem’s Java suite and checks for Java updates which involves usage of the Internet. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer’s Internet browsing and Java usage and should not be terminated. (wht_knght terminates it, doesn’t trust programs to update security, updates that stuff manually and regularly.)
avgnt – is a process belonging to Avira Internet Security Suite which protects your computer against Internet-bound threats such as spyware and trojans which can be distributed through e-mail or attack directly to the computer allowing unauthorized access to your computer. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
HpqSRMon – wht_knght says this process is under investigation on most sites I’ve checked. Appears to be Photosmart related. Disable advised.
Msmsgs (MSN Messengers? Never used it) – You can uninstall this through the control panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components (left side of the screen).
TeaTimer (I’m sure it came with SpyBot) wht_knght says this monitors processes for SS&D. Disable if SS&D has been uninstalled.
Adobe Reader Spe… – wht_knght says it’s not necessary, can be disabled without worry.
HP Digital Imaging… – wht_knght says it’s not necessary, can be disabled without worry.
Updates from HP – is a process associated with RunnerEXE Application from Hewlett-Packard.
Ymetray – is a process which belongs to the Yahoo! Music utility. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”
=======================================================================
This isn’t a problem of too many programs on the computer, it’s a problem of too many programs in the startup and system tray.
1. Click Start > Run.
2. Type “msconfig” (without quotation marks around it) and hit enter.
3. In the new window that pops up, click on the Startup tab.
4. List everything that you see there as additional details to your question if you would like further assistance.
I’ll bookmark this question and come back to help ya more after you list those startup items.

Sandy asks…
What digital cameras can be controlled from a PC?
I’m looking for a sub-$1,000 digital camera that can be hooked up to a computer (presumably via a USB cable) and controlled via the computer. I know there are some applications out there that let you control some very simple aspects of some Canon and Olympus point-and-shoot cameras (like taking a picture and viewing the results). But I’m looking for a camera, probably a digital SLR, where I can use the computer to set shutter speed, aperture, white balance, and focus, and then remotely take a picture. Anyone know if such a camera exists? I don’t even need the software: if there’s a published interface to the camera I can write the software to control it.

admin answers:
Besides being a photographer, I also have experience working the the Canon Software Development Kits. They have several cameras that can be controlled by the computer. However, not all of their cameras can be controlled by a computer. A good way to gauge as to whether or not a Canon Camera can be controlled by a computer is too look at the “picture mode” settings. If it has the “Creative Zones” (P, Tv, Av, M), that camera can be controlled using Canon Software. (You don’t even have to use the SDK, because they usually include the Remote Shooting software.)
Several years ago, we did some programming with the Nikon SDK and a Coolpix 950. They were controllable by the computer, but I don’t know the current state of Nikon cameras and computer control.
But to answer your question, yes it is possible. You might want to get a new camera that has live view if you want to remotely adjust focus on an SLR. To join the Canon Developers Network, your application has to be approved. It’s a fairly straightfoward application and they usually approve it in a day or two. Make sure you have a supported digital camera listed on the application otherwise, they might deny your application.

How truly reliable is Folder Encryption Software?
I am using Kakasoft folder protector 5.0… I am planning to travel in Saudi Arabia but I heard from my colleagues that they will check any electronic devices entering into the Kingdom. Please read below message:
Dearest All,
Please be advised that all Airports in Saudi Arabia have a new rule regarding arriving Overseas workers carrying electronic devices. This has not been published to the public, but please advice all workers who are traveling to K.S.A.
•All Electronic devices will be submitted for check up before immigration section.
•Devices includes Cellular phones with camera and memory card, flash disks, external hard drive, Laptops / notebooks / pc, ipod, itouch, mp3 players with memory cards.
•A special USB device will be inserted to the electonic devices that you are carrying. This special device can scan all videos and pictures, jpg, bmp, avi, etc, contents of your laptop / cellphones, and will be recorded to their main computer.
•All devices with nude pictures in it will be confiscated immediately. There will be no fines, and refusal will send you to jail and deportation.
•Laptops with pirated software’s will also be confiscated.
This rule has been applied already and is being practice in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah Airports. This is excluding Bahrain airport.
FYI, the special device was invented by a Filipino.
Kindly include this in your orientation with the workers and tell them not to bring any pirated softwares, movies, or nude pictures. Even datas that are hidden can be found by this device, so tell them not to bring any at all. The laptop of one of my friend, a Sony Viao, which cost around 8T Saudi Riyals, was confiscated a few days ago, because of 1 semi nude picture that he forgot to erase.
Thank you.

admin answers:
1. “All electronic devices” is a croc of sh**. They haven’t the manpower or equipment to check all electronic devices. Makes me wonder about your source.
2. “A special USB device . . .” A USB device would have to run using your computer’s CPU/hard drive and would be subject to infection. Ridiculous comment. That would never, ever happen. They pull your hard drive and take it away to a separate room and scan your hard drive using THEIR OWN COMPUTERs and SOFTWARE! Again, ridiculous statement that makes me question your informant.
3. “No fines for nude pics”. Another outrageously stupid comment. They will definitely fine you. Again, questionable information.
4. “Pirated software will be confiscated”. Stupid comment. How can they tell pirated software from legit software? Even experts can’t always tell the difference. Not a legitimate statement.
5. “Special device invented by a Filipino”. Filipinos are not widely known to be developing secret software that can do the impossible.
Sounds like your colleagues haven’t a clue. Such impossible and ridiculous statements they have given you. Here’s what you need to think about:
1. Travelers are selected at random for a hard drive (or other electronics) check unless you have some suspicion about you. You might be asked to simply power up your device but more than likely they will take it into a back room and check it out professionally. Again, only a few people are subject to this but it does happen.
2. Porn or anti-Islamic text will result in a fine and likely the confiscation of your device.
3. Remember deleting a file doesn’t get rid of it. The Kingdom can scan your hard drive using file undelete software which will show any porn or objectionable materials and you will be subject to a fine and equipment seizure. Using “wiping” software on your laptop before traveling into the Kingdom.
The text you gave us appears to be a “scare” tactic. Someone gets their jollies off of unreasonable scaring people who don’t have a clue. Don’t rely on scare tactics. Research the internet to find out current practices for people visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
