Your Questions About Publishing Software Online

Ken asks…
Is any good way to protest about the proposal to stop publishing the printed UK National Railway timetable?
The online computer facilities do not provide an adequate timetable service for British train services. For instance, they do not provide the same information about intermediate stations as the printed book it has been possible to buy for years.
The computer software is designed by train people who assume they know best; sometimes people have their own needs which they can find out if given the full printed information to look at.
For instance, I live in Canterbury, which has two stations, Canterbury East and Canterbury West, served by different routes from London stations: most routes to East go from Victoria and most routes to West from Charing Cross. but the National Rail computer software quotes journeys to Canterbury East even when I specify Canterbury West. It takes account of walking time although sometimes I have reason not to walk further than Canterbury West, near where I live, or spend money on a taxi. A friend’s compaint hasn’t worked.

Why don’t you organise a petition-signing? Call the local papers/radio stations and ask for their support in getting the word out. Set up a web site like www.keep-the-printed-timetable.co.uk and publicise the crap out of it. If you can generate enough interest, you might be able to pressure British Rail.

Laura asks…
Hi, I am plaining on making an online multiplayer game, like RuneScape, does anyone know software I can use?
Well, my friend Max and I create books published books together ( i write he illustrates the covers) and we always wanted to make an online multiplayer game ( kind of like RuneScape ) that is based on the books. We have big planes for this game and plain on it taking a couple or months to a year before we even think about getting it up and running. So here is the Question: DOES ANYONE KNOW SOME SOFTWARE WE CAN USE??

admin answers:
Since you’re familiar with RuneScape, you obviously know they use Java.
Here’s the J2se program:

Nancy asks…
How to become an online professor, teaching credited courses via the internet?
Asking for my husband, who is 44, has a B.S. in Computer Science, and 25+ years work experience as a programmer including corp experience with IBM, Peachtree Software, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and other consulting companies. He has also taught credited college classes as a adjunct professor.
He would like to teach credited college-level computer science or I/T classes remotely via the internet. But where would he find such teaching opportunities? He’s got great recommendations from the adjunct professorship and he’s a talented teacher. He even published training books.
With just a B.S. degree, he knows he’d be limited to 2-year or technical colleges, but with more of them now providing online classes, how does he get to be one of those teachers?
We’re located in North Georgia. He already has virtual meeting equipment from his other work (as a remotely based work-from-home software consultant for 15+ years).

admin answers:
ITT and other technical colleges usually have some classes offered online. Start with their websites. They usually have links about employment. However, keep in mind that most colleges (even tech schools) require a master’s level degree in the field.
