Your Questions About Publishing Software Open Source

Sandy asks…
ask about GNU License?
We intend to use LGPL-based (GNU Lesser General public License) software to our business project that is privately used only. We modify, rewrite, rebuild large parts of that software to fit our need. We don’t sell or ship to any other partners, what we do is running our business on that software. Do we have to publish our modifications as open source? We do not want to do this because of our business-secret. Are we violate the law if keeping new modifications silent?

If you have a business and are making money of it, you should contact a (good) lawyer about this, they can give you the information you need and are more reliable then “some guys from the Internet”

Mary asks…
Collaboration & Website Software?
Looking for an open source Concurrent Versioning System. Also I am looking for a similar open source program of Google Page Creator.
I want the editors to be able to sign on to the program, make corrections and edit their webpage, and then upload/publish. Maybe the ability to store data, as well. As a central server.
Thanks,

For something similar to Page Creator check these:

There’s also a couple in this list:

You may also be able to find other options from the sites linked at the bottom of http://www.t3technet.com/alternates.html

Paul asks…
What’s a good word for someone or thing that helps run a business?
I’m designing some software to help small mom-and-pop companies put themselves online for little or no recurring cost. The software will be able to run all the functions of their business, from inventory control, to marketing (tie ins to Froogle, eBay, Shopping.com, and AdWords and Overture), to accounting (export in CSV for now, QuickBooks later), and so forth. It will be easy to change the look-and-feel of it (using skins and templates, some of which I’ll build at first, and I’ll publish the guide to creating more). It will integrate with Authorize.net, PayPal, and other merchant services. It will be built using Open Source tools, and will itself be Open Source.
Can anyone think of a good name for something like this?
